June 2025 Clinical Supervision Topic: Anti-Oppressive Practice and Trauma-Informed Care
There is so much overlap in our two theories this month. Take some time to review the venn diagram (also this video and this one are helpful), and then let’s come together to discuss how to put the two above theories into action.
Here are a few ideas:
Shared Practices from AOP + TIC
Do a regular location of self (identity, privilege, positionality) and name what’s relevant when appropriate.
Offer meaningful choices to clients whenever possible (session structure, goals, topics, pacing).
Use invitational language: “Would it feel okay to…” instead of directives.
Check in on emotional and physical safety, not just content.
Repair ruptures when harm happens—including microaggressions or misattunements.
Slow down the pace to match the client’s nervous system and cultural norms around trust and expression.
De-center the clinician’s expertise and validate client knowledge and lived experience.
Build in collaborative reflection (“How are we doing in this space together?”) as part of the relationship.
Looking forward to seeing you all this month.
