June 2020 Clinical Supervision Topic: Let's Talk About Race

Hi All,

On May 25th, 2020, Memorial Day, George Floyd, a Black man, was killed by a police officer holding him down with his knee on his neck for almost nine minutes. I know you have been closely watching the protests and the calls for a stronger stance against racism, a call for us all to be anti-racists.

This month we’ll be discussing how to show up in our clinical settings as a person who is informed and who can be trusted to address privilege, race, oppression and the ongoing atrocities that people of color face on a daily basis in our country.

We are all learning together. There’s no perfect way to be anti-racist. The fumbling, imposter syndrome, guilt about not knowing/doing more, wanting to get it right- it’s all part of the process. There is no need to worry- the world is full of so much good information and our supervision sessions are designed to help you explore and learn and grow. Additionally, when it comes to the clinical arena, all of your common factor skills will help you here.

Let’s come together and discuss, get curious, explore and prepare for addressing these problems in our communities and in our sessions.
