February 2024 Clinical Supervision Topic: Empathy

Yay, it’s empathy month! See all of our previous years here.

I’m listening to Being A Brain-Wise Therapist by Bonnie Badenoch and in it she talks about how empathy is the most important skill for therapists. I love the clarity and simplicity of that statement.

In preparation for our conversations this month about empathy, I thought it would be great to consume a few more Bonnie resources.

To that end, let’s all listen to this podcast episode on Healing Attachment with Safety and Presence and this video on Cultivating Presence Over Technique.

Lastly, I’d love to hear about a time when you noticed your empathy showing up in a moment with a client. What did it feel like? How did you know it was there? What did you notice the impact was on your client, and what do you think caused you to experience empathy?
